Abstract:
Scrutiny of nonprofit organizations, including foundations, will increase in 2005 as state and federal legislation designed to dictate nonprofit accountability is put in place. And, generally speaking, more and more attention is being paid to both for-profit and non-profit directors’ oversight responsibility—and how well they fulfill it—with hefty personal liability assessments in recent cases (e.g., Enron, the King Foundation). While it is difficult to anticipate the specific legislative details, foundation board members can prepare for this additional scrutiny by ensuring they know as much as possible about the foundation’s operation. Keywords:
