Abstract:
Debra Wingfield and Dan Boeck have devoted their careers in domestic violence advocacy to exploring ways in which religious communities can support the victims of DV. In Volume 17, Number 4 of Family & Intimate Partner Violence Quarterly, their article “Faith-Based Survivor Advocacy: A Religious Response to Domestic Violence, Coercive Control, and Child Abuse” described an innovative program, Called to Peace Ministries, which was developed specifically to meet the needs of people of faith who are enduring DV or other forms of abuse. Called to Peace is a model program that effectively addresses the pressing needs of faith community members ensnared in a relationship with a coercively controlling partner. The program is designed around three fundamental tenets: Education, Empowerment, and Encouragement and Emotional Support. This article describes, in detail, how these tenets are applied in the advocacy work Called to Peace Ministries is engaged in.Keywords: Faith Communities; Family Court Advocacy for DV Survivors
