Abstract:
This article focuses upon the nonconsensual dissemination of intimate images (NCDII), a type of sexual abuse that has become increasingly prevalent due to recent advancements in digital media, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), along with the increase in the number of websites that facilitate the proliferation of such images. AI has led to the creation of deep-fake technology, which allows virtually anyone’s image to be engineered into a pornographic image or video. As author Troy Smith explains, given the ease of distributing such humiliating images, NCDII may lead to life-long emotional, psychological, and physical harms in its victims. The article includes legislative and legal remedies that, although insufficient to fully tackle this growing problem, at least direct attention toward the menace posed by this form of sexual abuse. Keywords: Nonconsensual Dissemination of Intimate Images (NCDII); AI; Deep-fake Porn
