Abstract:

In June 2020, as the United States was reacting to George Floyd’s death, Oriana House President and Chief Executive Officer James Lawrence recognized that the spotlight on the structural racism and profound inequalities in social justice in the United States provided an unprecedented opportunity for growth in the agency’s efforts to build equitable, stronger communities. Suggestions solicited within the agency resulted in the creation of Oriana’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, which was charged with creating new ideas and platforms within the agency for education, growth, and initiatives in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
