Abstract:

Program planners and policy developers have shown a marked interest in exploring the situations and circumstances that place women at risk for criminal justice involvement, and a growing movement from the field has demanded a shift from traditional approaches to models and practices that incorporate research on women. There is some compelling evidence to suggest that differences in the ways in which males and females experience the world—politically, economically, socially, and biologically—require separate study and programmatic considerations. These developments provide a springboard for new possibilities and innovative options in our work with women. This paper reports on the evaluation results of one such initiative for women, the Women Offender Case Management Model (WOCMM), a gender-responsive case management model piloted by the National Institute of Corrections (NIC). This paper describes the results of an outcome evaluation of one implementation of the model in the State of Connecticut.
