Abstract:
The lead article, by Dr. Ralph Fretz, examines the role that the risk, need, and responsivity principles play in the delivery of effective treatment programs. Using a case example, Dr. Fretz describes the principles in action and presents data that suggest a correlation between program adherence to the RNR principles and reduced recidivism. James Hemm, executive director of the New Jersey Association on Correction, recalls the roots of the residential movement and discusses the current emphasis on reentry in an article based on his Margaret Mead address delivered at the ICCA conference in Atlantic City, in November 2005. Lynn Cuddington and Sally Cherry report on what the conference considered to be necessary staff skills and knowledge for work in reentry in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.Dr. Michael Franc comments on his attendance and participation at the Fourth Pan-Asia Pacific Conference on Mental Health, held in Shanghai, China. Franc uses his participation in the conference to explore the relationship between culture/society and the individual, a relationship that requires special attention by agencies working in the community. Keywords:
