Abstract: 

This article agues that there are five critical areas in which community corrections can assist and legitimate managing offenders in the community: by providing examples of programs that reduce recidivism; by advocating for both effectiveness and efficiency; by innovating; by facilitating post-release support as well as supervision; and by building community support for reentry programs.
