Abstract:

This article highlights the importance of addressing mental health needs of all correctional staff during COVID. It discusses the need to recognize and assist staff who have signs of burnout and vicarious trauma. Bridging the divide between security and clinical staff through cross training helps stabilize operations. Active leadership by managers/supervisors is key to addressing staff concerns and decreasing staff burnout. Fostering key relationships with line staff using the principles of Psychological First Aid is recommended.
