Abstract:

Reentry programs can make a meaningful difference in the lives of many returning offenders. Programs conducted both within and outside of prison can reduce criminality and its broad societal impact. Any impact on recidivism means fewer victims of crime. Ciminal victimization has endless social, moral, and political implications. In addition, the majority of offenders are parents. Many of us have interacted with offenders’ children, as well as with the mothers and grandmothers who are caring for these children. The results of a parent’s criminality can be devastating to the lives of children and research indicates self-destructive behaviors and increased delinquency.
