Abstract:
Community-based programs have existed for many decades, but research on their effectiveness has been limited. This study examines case files of clients involved in a faith-based diversion and reentry program in southwestern Indiana to determine predictors of program completion and recidivism after completion. The program studied requires clients to attend religious services and meetings with church mentors and offers specialized programming. Results indicate that older clients, those with social support, and those convicted of DWI/DUI offenses are more likely to finish the program. The study also finds that recidivists are older and pray often, counterintuitive results that indicate the need for future research. Keywords: Recidivism, correctional system, faith-based programming, evidence-based programming, diversion, program evaluation
