Abstract:

Philanthropy is often the most underexamined portion of a wealthholder’s financial portfolio. According to a 2010 survey of private client advisors, only 52% provide philanthropy-related advice, and when they do, it is typically limited to guidance on giving vehicles, rather than on helping clients to maximize the social impact of their donations. However, in this age of the Gates-Buffett Giving Pledge and diminished charitable resources, donors are increasingly turning to their financial and legal advisors for charitable planning advice.
