Abstract:
Whether its members are called directors or trustees, the governing board of a charity, including a family foundation, is an important factor in the success of the organization. Without the oversight of an effective, informed, and involved board, the charity is at risk for serious problems. Moreover, the board members themselves are likewise at risk for expense, liability, unfavorable publicity, and public disgrace (to mention just a few such things) if things go wrong and the organization is sued or pursued by the state authorities for something that went wrong on their watch. Keywords:
