Abstract: 

“Can you tell us which charities are doing the best job of serving the poorest of the poor?” That conversation has intensified my exploration of several questions: • How do people even become aware of the needs of the poorest of the poor? • Why do people give? • What can we do to encourage greater individual generosity? • How can we increase the effectiveness and insure sustainability of individual generosity?
