Abstract:

California Governor Gray Davis signed legislation on October 8, 2001, making it a requirement that sex offenders in the state who are already required to register with police must register with campus police when they enroll in classes or begin working at a college. The bill, AB 4, passed both the California State Senate and Assembly without opposition. The principal sponsor of the legislation was Assembly member Patricia Bates (RLaguna Nigel). Bates stated that: “AB 4 will help campus police defend students and school staff from sexual predators.”
