Abstract: 

Continuing the examination of sex offender risk assessment which appeared in Volume 18, Number 6 (October/November 2017) of Sex Offender Law Report, the authors explores the growing knowledge base about risk factors, their interrelatedness, and the strategies of categorization that support determinations about sexual recidivism. The authors describe assessment methods, with an emphasis on the increased focus on assessing changes in risk over time—a movement beyond the sole assessment of static, historical factors. Specific topics addressed include factors related to general criminal recidivism, role of personality patterns within the recidivism risk factor matrix, and RNR’s contributions to understanding sexual recidivism risk. The article also includes a brief look at proposed legislation using RNR approach in corrections.
