Abstract: 

Studies of eyewitness accuracy have steadily chipped away at the steadfast preference for eyewitnesses. This is the first in a multipart article examines the problem of eyewitness testimony in sex crimes, with case studies to illustrate the issues. Woven into the discussion are summaries of sections of a report published by the National Academy Press, “Identifying the Culprit: Assessing Eyewitness Identification,” which details the underlying causes of eyewitness identification fallibility.
