Abstract:

In this article, Elaine Weiss offers a well-thought out set of practical suggestions for friends, family members, and clinicians who wish to effectively help someone who is trapped within the tentacles of intimate partner abuse. Onlookers in these scenarios often are desperate to help the woman escape from her abuser, but they haven’t any idea of how to help, what to say, or even whether to bring up the topic to the victim. Here, you will find a concise summary of the best one can do to be supportive, rather than the opposite.

Keywords: Isolation; victim-blaming; supportive strategies
