Abstract:
This article discusses the True Star Recovery Intensive Program. TRIP is an ongoing pilot program that began in January of 2016 and will continue through December 2016. The goal of the program is to use the infrastructure of juvenile detention to provide treatment services for detained youth. The structure of treatment is intensive and similar to an inpatient treatment experience for substance abusing youth. The TRIP program applies the evidence-based practice Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA) and is available to youth currently enrolled in the outpatient or intensive outpatient substance abuse programs at True Star Behavioral Health, Clallam County Juvenile and Family Services. These individuals are court ordered to serve time in juvenile detention. The purpose of the pilot program is to explore the efficacy of providing intensive treatment services while youth are in detention, assisting the youth in transitioning out of detention and back into the community, and ensuring continuity of care. Three standardized measures are being used to measure biological, psychological, environmental, and substance use among the youth in the program. Keywords: Overlapping juvenile detention and treatment, juvenile mental health, juvenile substance abuse, True Star Recovery Intensive Program
