Abstract:
The new Dodd-Frank Act, and other regulatory changes—both in the U.S. and in the wider global community—promise major systemic change for the financial services industry. We can only begin to predict the management and operational changes firms will have to make. The one sure thing is that how financial firms do business, how they interact with their corporate and retail shareholders, and how they work with their regulators will change in ways both small and large. The authors here consider several critical implications of the new reform environment, and suggest preliminary action steps for financial institutions to take, even as we all await new regulation under the law. Keywords: Dodd-Frank Act, Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act,financial regulation, systemic risk oversight, capital standards and requirements, risk management
