Abstract: 

Emerging economies, such as member nations of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)—Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates—may require more effective and stronger governance mechanisms than their western developed counterparts if they are to become equal, full, and active participants in the global financial marketplace.
