Abstract:
The first part of this two-part review of David Adam’s fascinating book, “Why Do They Kill? Men Who Murder Their Intimate Partners” discussed the five types of intimate partner (IP) killers that Adams identified from his study of 31 male and unanticipated IP killers and 39 female survivors of attempted homicides and serious assaults. He also relied on data from female survivors of attacks that could have killed them. This column describes and discusses discrepancies between the batterers’ and victims’ accounts. Keywords: EMERGE; batterer intervention program
