Abstract:
The first federally funded study of teen dating violence protection orders (OPs) just released its findings. The research, funded by the National Institute of Justice, explores the characteristics of juvenile petitioners and respondents, the patterns of re-abuse following the issuance of orders of protection, and the petitioners’ perceptions about both the orders and the petitioning process. The research was conducted by Andrew Klein, Ph.D., Advocates for Human Potential, Inc., Sudbury, MA, and his associates. This article summarizes its results and provides recommendations.Keywords: New York significantly revised its order-of-protection law in 2008.
