Abstract:

In a response to the lead article in this issue, “Coercive Control Involving Male Victims of Intimate Partner Violence,” Professor Meier expresses skepticism of—and a plea for more specifics on—the assertion that women are using “coercive control” in the robust sense intended by Evan Stark (i.e., infused by fear and reinforced by social gender norms of male dominance). Meier “is even more skeptical” of the Bates and Taylor article’s assertion that men are widespread victims of women’s false allegations—and that these are a form of “coercive control.”
