Abstract:
Native-American women face extraordinarily high rates of intimate partner violence and abusers on tribal lands often escape liability for their crimes because of the application of federal laws and policies. This article reviews a landmark case, the first in which a tribal court convicted a non-Native American abuser under VAWA 2013 provisions that authorized tribal authority to prosecute and sentence non-Native Americans for perpetrating domestic violence on tribal lands. Keywords: VAWA 2013; Pascua Yaqui tribe of Arizona; Pascua Yaqui Tribe v.
