Abstract: 

Anchoring this issue of DVR, the first of two devoted to risk assessment and its use by courts, law enforcement, health care providers, and counseling and advocacy services, Editor Kelly Weisberg defines and summarizes the theoretical and legal foundations for instruments used to measure risk, and surveys the use of these tools in protecting and treating victims of interpersonal violence, in prosecuting abusers, and in seeking civil damages for abuse.
