Abstract:

The Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund (LABMF) is a non-profit corporation established to support the prevention of relationship violence primarily through the education of teens, parents, educators, and the public. Founded to honor a young Rhode Island College graduate who was trying to break the cycle of violence when she was murdered by her former boyfriend in 2005, LABMF successfully advocated for passage of Rhode Island’s Lindsay’s Burke Act of 2007, requiring TDV prevention instruction in Rhode Island schools in all health education classes for grades seven to 12. This article describes the work of LABMF, and the positive impact its work is having in Rhode Island. The author, Ann Burke, is Lindsay Ann Burke’s mother.
