Abstract:
Elder abuse occurs even in cultures commonly known to respect their elders. Familial piety in Asian cultures is so highly valued, and is such an ingrained characteristic, that elder abuse often goes unmentioned and undiagnosed. Asian Americans have, in the past, been less likely to seek nursing home options for their elders, as a premium is placed on being able to care for them at home. But the population of elderly Asian Americans is surging and elder abuse is on the rise in communities undergoing changing economic conditions and norms. Keywords: Cultural norms
