Abstract:
This article analyzes the American Society of Adult Abuse Professionals and Survivors (ASAAPS) pending state legislation database to determine where lawmakers are looking this year when they think about abuse of elders and adults with disabilities. Perhaps reflecting reporters’ interests more than legislators’ (the database is largely built from newspaper articles that mention relevant legislation), sex and violence have been two of the biggest concerns. Keywords: sex offenders in long-term care; expanding adult abuse law; strengthening abuse law; tightening mandated reporting; liability reform; undue influence, abusers’ profiting, identity theft; fraud
