Abstract:
Professionals dealing with the abuse, neglect, or exploitation of adults who are elderly and/or have disabilities grapple with the complexities of mental capacity on a daily basis. There is a large body of literature about mental capacity; however, few resources specifically explore the relationship between mental capacity (or lack thereof) and the abuse of vulnerable adults. This clinical practice column will discuss aspects of cognition relative to adult victimization. Keywords: relationship between mental capacity and the abuse of vulnerable adults
