Abstract: 

Senate Bill 6, passed by the 79th Texas Legislature and signed by Governor Rick Perry, laid the groundwork for comprehensive reform of child and adult protective services in Texas. Since the legislation’s passage, the state has hired more than 800 new protective services staff, strengthened training for caseworkers, improved risk assessments, and increased the focus on protecting vulnerable Texas children and adults. This executive summary is a report from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Department of Family and Protective Services, March 1, 2006.
