Abstract:

A stream of decisions issued by the United States Supreme Court has interpreted the legal options for age discrimination lawsuits. The term “ageism” is an evolving one, and with its evolution, the courts have had to adapt. Congress originally acknowledged discrimination when it passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It further recognized the perils of ageism with the passage of the Age Discrimination Employment Act of 1967. Thus, the issue of age discrimination has become an important issue for employers, employees, and society at large.
