Abstract: 

This article deals with issues of excessive medication andother abuses in nursing homes. When many drugs are prescribed (including antidepressants and antipsychotic medications, as well as drugs to treat dementia) drug interactions are a serious risk and could result in confusion, delirium, falls, and other injuries requiring hospitalization. Several cases are cited, including one in which the family of an elderly patient in a nursing home won a settlement and damages through the use of a hidden camera that exposed an assault otherwise difficult to demonstrate.
