Abstract:

The authors of this article, working for APS in Massachusetts, face many challenges and frustrations, one case of which is the subject of this inspiring article. Lucy Turner (a pseudonym), 71, resided in a skilled nursing facility following several strokes. Her husband lived independently, taking her home for weekends and visits, during which the abuse was alleged to occur. Difficulties in communication rendered investigation of the charges more difficult, including that of much earlier abuse of their daughters, but imaginative approaches not only facilitated communications but improved the patient’s health.

Keywords: long-term care ombudsman program; sexual abuse of daughters
