Abstract:
This research review summarizes the major findings and conclusions of “Evaluating Abuse in the Patient With Dementia” by Pamela Tronetti, in 30(4) Clinics in Geriatric Med. 825 (Nov. 2014); and “Total Disability and the Wrongness of Killing” by Adam Omelianchuk,in J. Med. Ethics (Oct. 16, 2014), a strongly argued critique of a 2011 article in the Journal of Medical Ethics written by Walter Sinnott-Armstrong, of Duke University, and Franklin G. Miller, of the National Institutes of Health, which argued that it might be ethical to euthanize a totally incapacitated patient with no chance of recovery.Keywords: moderate and severe dementia; brain death and euthenasia
