Abstract: 

This work explains the hindrances on life chances caused by the presence of a criminal record. The purpose of the article is to show how stigma reduction approaches to punitive action can reduce recidivism rates and have overall better outcomes for the criminal justice system. Particular support is given to programs that embrace case management and rehabilitative correctional practice.
