Abstract:
This piece focuses on changes in a measure of criminal thinking as it relates to substance abuse in the Iowa prison system. The authors show that proper substance abuse treatment has a positive effect on criminal thinking and that this treatment, when implemented effectively, can lower the costs of dealing with an offender by as much as 50%.Keywords: best practices; substance abuse treatment
