Abstract:

The Ithaca City Drug and Treatment Court is an intensive program of treatment, supports, rewards, incentives, and sanctions designed to support recovering addicts by providing structure for lives that were often previously chaotic. The program fully integrates treatment with close supervision and restorative justice components including: compensatory employment, educational, and life skills training, family supports, community service, and a graduation ceremony for reintegration and welcome back into the community. This article examines this court system, which is a fusion of restorative justice and drug treatment.
