Abstract:
Prison programs attempt to respond to problems that are prominent among prisoner populations. Therefore, they deserve attention by corrections staff, legislators, and program evaluators. In addition to correctional programming, however, there are other approaches that also may help ease the difficulties of prisoner reentry and reduce recidivism. While these programs alone can not ameliorate recidivism, they can have a positive impact. In this essay, the author focuses on one aspect of prisoner reentry: employment. First, she describes the problem of employment among former prisoners, and then she suggests ways to address aspects of this problem. Keywords: Prison programs; reentry
