Abstract:

Restorative justice redefines the concept of justice from a punitive, eye-for-an-eye approach to one that offers a positive strategy for repairing the harm caused by crime. Instead of inflicting pain on the offender and ignoring the people impacted by the crime, restorative justice invites victims, offenders and communities to actively participate in finding a meaningful and healing justice response. This article explores restorative justice through the eyes of the Pennsylvania Prison Society, an advocacy and services group for Pennsylvania prisoners founded in 1787.
