Abstract:
Pretrial detainee Tracy Veira died in the county jail, apparently as a result of inadequate treatment of her medication addiction and flawed observations by corrections staff who lied about the watches they were to keep but did not. We explain why, in spite of the tragic facts of the case, under §1983 litigation both the municipality and Corizon, the health provider, are exempt from liability on a theory of respondeat superior. Keywords: Respondeat superior; liability under § 1983
