Abstract: 

Inmates’ access to their own records is an important part of self-advocacy especially when they often have greater healthcare needs than the average population. So why does access to medical records for inmates across the nation vary from outright prohibited to special permission to temporal limits? As do the rights regarding the making or copies and the release of records to a third party. A review of a system in need of reevaluation.
