Abstract: 

This ITSMR Research Note contains significant information about drugs and vehicle crashes in New York that can serve as a cautionary tale to other states. Its key finding is that 16% of 2011’s motor vehicle fatalities involved drugs. For the same period, 31% of all motor vehicle fatalities in New York State were alcohol-related.
