Abstract:
Courts are now realizing that a first time DWI/DUI arrest does necessarily equate to the first time an offender has driven drunk. In fact, most first offenders are people who have committed the crime of drunk driving before. At the time of arrest, first offenders typically have BAC levels very close to that of repeat offenders and a large number of first offenders have serious alcohol problems. This article discusses statistics of first time offenders and looks at the judicial actions taken to make sure these drivers do not repeat their actions.Keywords: BAC; Traffic Safety Bureau; Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD);
