Abstract:

Syracuse University is in the heart of an urban residential neighborhood. In the neighborhood adjacent to the University, commonly referred to as the East Neighborhood, there are approximately 30,993 people living in a variety of single family and multiple family dwellings. This area is home to several thousand fulltime University undergraduate and graduate students. The move off campus can create student perceptions of being autonomous and free from the rules of the University and the broader society. This article looks at the alliance between the school and local law enforcement and how it has helped change student behavior off campus.
