Abstract:

The abuse of alcohol, tobacco, or illicit drugs (ATOD) is the number one health problem in the nation, placing an enormous burden on the country. It strains the resources of our health system and contributes to the death and ill health of millions of Americans every year. Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network is dedicated to identifying and advancing opportunities for improving addiction treatment, to upgrading the knowledge and skills of practitioners and other professionals, and to disseminating the latest scientific research to the treatment community. This article discusses how the ATTC plans to improve treatment.
