Abstract:
Researchers at OASAS estimated that when youths turn 16, the age eligible to apply for a driver’s license in New York State, up to 15% would be at risk for drinking driving; when they reach 17 and 18, up to 60% and 80%, respectively, would be at risk for involvement in drinking driving. While delaying the onset of alcohol use among youths is one of the critical measures for reducing underage drinking driving, many youths learned to use alcohol at home. The following study explores the relationship between parents’ and children’s alcohol-use behaviors and attempts to provide some insights in preventing underage drinking and, ultimately, drinking driving.Keywords: New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS);
