Abstract:

The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) represents the motor vehicle administrators and chief law enforcement officials in North America. AAMVA members administer the laws that govern motor vehicle operation, the driver credentialing process, and highway safety enforcement. AAMVA has played an integral role in the development, deployment, and monitoring of both the commercial driver’s license (CDL) and motor carrier safety programs throughout the United States. The association’s members are responsible for administering these programs at the state level, and our members pride themselves on the work they do every day to improve safety on our nation’s roadways. This article looks at AAMVA policies and programs to fight impaired driving.
