Abstract: 

Each issue of Impaired Driving Update surveys important research findings bearing on drunk and drugged driving. This issue’s “Worth Reading” reviews: “Drinking Alone? The Effect of an Alcohol Treatment Program on Relationship Stability for Convicted Drunk Drivers in Denmark” by Signe Hald Andersen explores how an alternative to incarceration that has a treatment component affects the relationship between the convicted drunk driver and their significant other. “Do Negative Changes in Worldview Mediate Links Between Mass Trauma and Reckless Behavior? A Longitudinal Exploratory Study” by Claire Blevins, Michael Wusik, Connor Sullivan, Russell Jones, & Michael Hughes, examines the relationship between changes in worldview, PTSD symptomatology, and risky behavior following exposure to the mass shooting at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.“Impact of State Ignition Interlock Laws on Alcohol- Involved Crash Deaths in the United States” by Elinore Kaufman & Douglas Wiebe, looks at the effect that state ignition interlock laws have on alcohol-involved deaths in the United States, using data obtained from all 50 states. “Impulsivity Increases Risk for Coping-Motivated Drinking in Undergraduates With Elevated Social Anxiety” by Matthew Keough, Ghislaine Badawi, Danit Nitka, Roisin O’Connor, & Sherry Stewart, tests an alternative theory in social anxiety related drinking.
