Abstract:

Study abroad has become a major growth industry on American campuses. About 125,000 students went overseas between 1998 and1999, up from 76,000 five years earlier. While the popularity of study abroad programs is on the rise, so is the risk of injury or death among American students overseas. This article looks at various cases of students being harmed or dying on abroad trips, what problems students face while abroad, and how to prepare for a safe trip.
