Abstract:
Colleges expect that lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) students will attend school in an atmosphere of tolerance and understanding. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Last year, for example, a Rutgers University student, Tyler Clementi, committed suicide after two fellow students surreptitiously videotaped him in a sexual encounter with another man and streamed it over the Internet. The Suicide Prevention Center (SPRC), a nonprofit group, has developed resources and suggestions for workshops that educators can use to help students and professionals talk about the issue in a comfortable and safe environment. Keywords: "Teaching Transgender"; CDC; sexual orientation; harassment; intervention; Risk Factors; Protective Factors; cultural sensitivity
